"Sokolov offers a compelling combination of silk and steel. He understands Tchaikovsky’s lyrical sweetness, yet can effortlessly ignite the atmosphere when needed.”

— CD REVIEW, BBC Radio 3

Ukrainian violinist Valeriy Sokolov is a world-renowned artist who has previously appeared at the Auer Festival, where he gave a highly acclaimed and powerful sonata recital in 2015. He was also heard three years ago as soloist in Barber’s Violin Concerto with orchestra. Although still relatively young, he already programmes the great canonical composers in his concerts, going far beyond the display of instrumental virtuosity alone.

In recent seasons he has appeared with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine, and made debuts with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Orchestre National de France and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Conductors with whom he has worked include David Zinman, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Ivor Bolton and Ludovic Morlot. He has appeared in recital at the Wigmore Hall, the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

Sokolov is an artist in search of the deeper meaning of music: direct, uncompromising, and of striking expressive intensity. He has also founded his own festival, bringing together similarly creative musicians to present chamber music masterpieces at the highest artistic level.
